Title: A Microfluidic Platform for Chemical Screening in C. elegans
Abstract A method to induce and quantify on-demand locomotion in nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is here demonstrated in a novel assay for neurobehavioural chemical toxicity. We employ the assay in two contexts: a toxicological investigation of environmental pollutants, and a drug discovery screen of a compound library. Using electric fields and microfluidic technology, our assay is a rapid, sensitive, low-cost, and scalable technique to screen for factors affecting neuronal health.
