Why do organisms age? How can we influence our life span and live healthy?

The overall goal of the McMaster Biology of Aging Research Cluster is to uncover the basic causes and processes of aging. The cluster, part of McMaster Geroscience Institute*, consists of research labs in various departments/units at McMaster. While specific research directions vary, overall the labs strive to understand the nature of longevity and age-related diseases. In this sense we aim for fundamental discoveries into the underlying molecular, physiological and evolutionary mechanisms. At the same time we investigate how the aging process might be manipulated, thereby paving the way towards healthy aging in humans.
